Rumah Interview + Inhabit Mix 017

11.05.12

Sean Hughes aka Rumah first crossed my radar a couple of months ago after hearing his guest mix on Dalston internet radio station NTS. Since then I have witnessed him sporadically uploaded new tracks to his Soundcloud, each bettering the last. His productions are usually built around a four-to-the-floor referencing techno and house, coloured with with dark textures from across the UK spectrum. [Read more →]

Dusky Interview – Inhabit Mix 016

01.04.12

Anyone who creates music is likely to witness their outcome change sonically over time. Musicians Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman are no exception to this trend. The London based duo have been releasing house music together since 2009 under their Solarity guise. Over time their sound has morphed exploring a different sonic world; there are less connections with traditional peak-time/big room dance music, and more correlations with deeper house and techno. With this change of sound came a needed change of identity for the duo. Dusky was born. [Read more →]

For the past decade Chris Jarman aka Raiden has secured a reputation as one of the most accomplished producers to ever work within the Drum & Bass scene. Helix – Inhabit Mix 014 + Interview

13.01.12

Helix is a young smoked out producer from the deep dirrrty south of America. He’s had support from a whole bevy of big players and with his ‘Drum track’ (forthcoming via the Night Slugs imprint) receiving some heavy rotation it looks like 2012 is the year where he emerges from a fug of weed smoke to show us what he knows about production (very little he assures me) We caught up with him for a little chat and he’s also kindly provided us with a mix. Inhabit Mix 012 – Behling

09.08.11

In last month’s issue of The Wire, Joe Muggs wrote “Slowing down is one of the defining aesthetic responses of the past decade’s club music” and he makes a fair point. What with Dubstep’s half tempo beats, the sizzurp influenced chopped ‘n’ screwed Hip-Hop coming out of America’s southern states and Moombahton taking Dutch style House music right down to the 110 BPM, everyone seems to be taking things at a much slower pace these days. That much is true for Behling, who alongside his production partner Simpson (who you may know as Baobinga) have been making some amazing slow burning House grooves as of late. [Read more →]

Inhabit Mix 011 – Dub Boy

01.07.11

During the wee hours of monday I had the pleasure of seeing Dub Boy DJ in the intimate babylon uprising tent at glastonbury festival. The mood was raucous as the festival slowly wound down, and the small crowd surrounding dub boy on stage made sure that every other tune was wheeled. I managed to catch up with him just before the festivities kicked off last weekend for a chat.

Inhabit Mix 010 – Clubroot

30.05.11

Next up in our Inhabit mix series is this gem from St. Albans producer, Clubroot. Clubroot is an infection, both literally and metaphorically. He first immerged into the Dubstep scene, and grabbed our attention back in 2009 with his debut self-titled album and has had our guarded attention since. His ability to take mood driven atmospheres and project them into truely classic darkside dance music is flawless. [Read more →]

Inhabit Mix 009 – TMSV

05.04.11

Tomas Roels aka TMSV is a dubstep producer from Utrecht, the Netherlands. His sub heavy, percussion-driven tunes has gained him support from the likes of Distance, Youngsta and Mala. TMSV has released music on Box Clever and Tube10 Recordings and was nominated for Best New Producer in the 2011 Dubstep forum awards so we were stoked to hear this mix consists entirely of his own productions, some forthcoming releases and smoothly ending in a couple of his 100 bpm experiments. With a mind that is focused on the minimal, deep sounds of dubstep is understandable why TMSV is tipped to be a strong contender to watch out for this year. [Read more →]

Inhabit Mix 008 – Lapalux

28.03.11

Stuart Howard is a 22 year-old producer from Essex. He goes under the name Lapalux and has been turning some serious heads for some time now. After listening to some of his productions you’ll begin to understand why. They draw on elements from multiple of genres from hip hop to IDM to soul and jazz incorporating sub bass frequencies. The finesse with which he controls samples and synths is remarkable leaving a signature on each of his tracks. Reverb, sampled vocals, sub bass and clinical drum samples all come together to create lush textured sounds. [Read more →]
